This data layer was produced by extracting soil particle size attributes from the NRCS - STATSGO data layers for the 11 western states. Map types represent most prevalent soil particle size for each polygon. Polygons colored white in this graphic representation have no dominant soil particle size designation. There may be, however, subdominant types. Other attributes in this database include the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most prevalent soil particle size per polygon and their respective frequency of occurence represented by percentages.
